On a dark, rainy night at Parswood High School the girls football team took part in another tournament. It’s fair to say that we need to revisit our Sam Allardyce tactics of parking the bus in favour Klopp’s rock and roll football.
This year 5H are taking part in a songwriting project called Camerata. By the end of this term we will have written, arranged and performed our very own song on a topic of our choosing.
In preparation for this we have been playing lots of different games in class but today we had the pleasure of Andy (our friend from camerata) teach us some more musical games!
We had a blast!
Our big question this term has been ‘Why do people believe in God?’
We have had many class discussions about our individual religious and non religious beliefs about existence. We explored the three main beliefs about God: theism, agnosticism and atheism.
Today we were fortunate enough to meet and learn from and question a Humanist! Many of us in 5H belong to a faith and so to have the opportunity to hear the view points of an atheist about creation, morality and death was very insightful.
We learned about scientific theories about creation, how someone can still and should still try to be good even without the existence of God and how death is the end of your consciousness but not of your atoms that make up your body. We found all of this very fascinating!
Our Star this week is essentially Mr Hussain’s personal assistant! She has done amazing this week! Take a look at her jazzy pose!
After designing our parachutes last week, we put some finishing touches to our designs and thought about ways of testing them.
We discussed that we needed to keep some variables the same like the height they were dropped from, the weight that was on each groups parachute.
But then we discussed how to measure their descent. As a class we decided on using a timer but then we realised some fell to quickly to measure accurately with timers. So we decided to drop them at the same time instead and note done which hit the ground last.
In 5H, we have a super special maths club.
This week we have been looking at exchanging using a variety of concrete materials. We looked at different ways at representing 10 and 100.
Last we explored Gravity, today we explored the force of air resistance. We designed our own recycled parachutes trying to find the one that generates the most air resistance and takes the longest to land.
We decided our own variables, some groups changed material, some changed size, some changed the shape. We didn’t get to test them out today but we will be next week!
This term we are learning all about e safety and you have already seen our amazing dramas on this topic. We are aiming to make our very own adverts by the end of the term.
Today we got our hands on the iPads and practised using movie player to direct, shoot and edit a scene of some moving around the classroom. We experimented with shooting the same scene in one take and with multiple takes. Then during the editing we explored adding sound, titles and visual effects. There are some real budding directors in 5H.
We are the one and only St. Mary’s chanted the excited fans as they watched the exciting brand of attacking football that Mr. Sandiford brought to the team on a rainy Tuesday evening. Whilst this evolution will take time from the dark Trohear ages there’s plenty of hope ahead. Well done St. Mary’s, you did an amazing job!
We love reading in 5H and when we heard Mr Sandifords announcement last week we were over the moon.
ST MARYS VERY OWN LIBRARY!?
AND WE GET TO DESIGN IT?!
Today we got started on our designs, some of us had even started at home!
